The Umsobomvu Youth Fund is continuing to cater for vulnerable youth in the country to ensure that they realise their dreams.
As part of this campaign, on Thursday the UYF launched the first South African Youth Card (SAY) in Johannesburg, developed to give young people access to discounts from retailers, banks, transport, health and leisure companies.
Targeting youth between the ages of 14 and 18, The SAY card will also provide the youth with information on issues of employment, self-employment, education and training, citizenship, health and well-being.
The card is the UYF initiative developed in partnership with the South African Post Office, the Government Communication and Information System, Johnnic Communications, and other stakeholders.
Victor Maleka of the UYF said the card will help facilitate most of the demanding youth activities such as social life and education.
"Most of the youths lack funds to do things for
themselves. With this card, they are going to reach some of their goals because they will get discounts on many things including educational facilities," Maleka said.
The card can be obtained from post offices throughout the country at R20 and is usable at specific stores that have partnered with the UYF in this regard.
The estimated discount for every purchase is at least 10 percent for every item.
The SAY is also part of the UYF's contact, information and counselling programme and serves as one of the channels to disseminate information, support and advisory services to young people.
