Fast forward to the future SA
Hannah Dawson

6 December 2004

A new book depicting individual South Africans' involvement in creating a brighter future for the country in the next 10 years was launched last week at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg.

"South Africa 2014 - The story of our future" provides insight on where South Africa is headed, and offers direction on how to achieve the positive future South Africans aspire to.

Instead of making exact predictions, the book expresses the challenges faced in creating a successful future.

Edited by Steuart Pennington, Brett Bowes and Guy Lundy, the book is a product of the "South Africa - Good News" project, which published the bestsellers "South Africa - The Good News" in 2002 and "South Africa - More Good News" in 2003.

These books started a huge campaign to educate South Africans on the development of the country in its first decade of democracy. This new book has the same aim, but looks ahead to the next decade.

"For people to be resilient they must have a vision of a future that is better than the present", says one of the co-editors, Brett Bowes. The book encourages South Africans to be both positive and informed about their country.

It consists of 22 chapters, each expressing different aspects of South African life that will affect the future. Each chapter concludes with a flow chart explaining where the country is now, challenges to overcome, and where we the country is likely to be in 2014.

The book contains contributions from 77 authors of all lifestyles, occupations and experience - Johnny Clegg, Wendy Luhabe, Nick Mallet, Thabo Mbeki, Doc Khumalo, FW de Klerk, Patricia de Lille, Vince van der Bijl and Ferial Haffajee, among others.

The book is available through all leading bookshops. For corporate orders, contact Leigh Pienaar on (011) 537-4700 or 082 434 8000.
