Mandela returns to Qunu home

30 May 2012

Nelson Mandela arrived safely back at his home in Qunu in the Eastern Cape on Tuesday.

"Madiba is in good health and we constantly assure him of the love, support and good wishes of millions of South Africans and people around the world," President Jacob Zuma said in a statement on Tuesday.

Mandela's Qunu house was refurbished over the past few months, and the former president had therefore relocated to his Houghton, Johannesburg home during that period.

Mandela stays in both residences interchangeably, depending on his wishes at any particular time.

The Presidency has requested "that the privacy of Madiba and his family be respected during this period".
