• Joburg honours struggle icons

    The city of Joburg honoured two of its greatest residents, giving them the Freedom of the City. George Bizos and Andrew Mlangeni received the honour for their role in contributing to South Africa's freedom – "one a defender and the other a member of the defending legal team".

    South Africa's Gauteng department of health is merging technology with patient care to improve overall delivery in its hospitals. After a successful trial phase, the Electronic Bed Management System was officially launched in Pretoria on 19 April 2016.

  • South Africa marks monuments day

    Freedom Park in Tshwane took part in International Day of Monuments and Sites, which fell on 18 April. Under the theme "The Heritage of Sport", schools participated by getting learners to prepare presentations that highlighted the importance of cultural heritage institutions.

  • South Africa marks queen's 90th with Krugerrand

    To commemorate Queen Elizabeth's 90th birthday, a special edition of the famous Krugerrand is released. With only 260 coins available, it has a unique feature reading "QEII 90" on the reverse side of the coin, above the iconic springbok.
