    South African Music Awards has a new venue

    South Africa's biggest music awards, the South African Music Awards, will be hosted in Durban for the first time. eThekwini Mayor James Nxumalo welcomed the news and applauded local musicians who showcase the country's diversity through music.

    South Africa to get second stock exchange

    South Africa is to get its second stock exchange, after the Johannesburg Stock Exchange has dominated trading in the country for more than a century. ZAR X has been given a licence to operate, and it plans to be up and running in September.

  • Hippo takes a swim in South African pool

    A hippo in South Africa's drought-hit Limpopo province decided to cool off in the swimming pool of a private nature reserve. Staff recorded a short video clip of the quirky incident before gently guiding the animal out of the pool using pool brushes and leaf catchers.

  • Tech boost for South African libraries

    The Gauteng government, national government and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation have joined forces to increase the technology available in libraries in South Africa. The most recent library to be upgraded is the Nkalimeng Leutsoa Public Library in Sharpeville.

  • South Africa has a bulk water plan for KZN

    Amid the current drought afflicting large parts of South Africa, Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane has launched the Lower Tugela Bulk Water Supply Scheme in KwaZulu-Natal. In opening the system, the minister urged people to use and reuse water wisely.

  • Register to vote on 9 and 10 April

    The final voter registration drive before this year’s local government elections will be held on the weekend of 9 and 10 April 2016. All South Africans are urged to get their names on the voters’ roll, so they can use their democratic right to choose the municipal leaders they want.
