• Global Aids conference in South Africa

    South Africa is hosting numerous international conferences this year, the first of which is the 21st International Aids Conference taking place in Durban. It is expected to help the country's position in global governance, and boost the economy through increased tourism and investment.

  • South African director to helm Hollywood action film

    Donovan Marsh, South African director of the Spud films and festival favourite iNumber Number, has been selected to lead the production on his first big budget Hollywood film, starring Gerard Butler and Gary Oldman. Shooting starts in London in July.

  • BRICS Development Bank officially opens for business

    The New Development Bank (NDB), operated by the BRICS grouping of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, has formally opened for business. According to the National Treasury, the country's role in the bank will strengthen its position as a financial centre for the continent.

  • South Africa prepares for CITES CoP17

    It's all systems go as South Africa signs the host country agreement for the CITES CoP17 World Wildlife Conference to be held in Johannesburg this year. The logo for the conference, featuring a white rhino, has also been unveiled. The conference will focus on the illegal trade in endangered species.

  • South Africa exceeds foreign investment target by R20-billion

    South Africa attracted R64.3-billion in foreign direct investment between April and December 2015, surpassing its target of R45-billion by almost R20-billion.

  • African folklore explored in animated short film

    A short but powerful animated film is building a global audience with its heart-warming look at African folklore. The film, Orisha's Journey, by Ghanaian Abdul Ndadi has been seen at a number of global short film festivals and is gaining traction with a growing online audience.
