Mandela 'stronger than before'

Former president Nelson Mandela, recovering back at home after nearly three weeks in hospital with a lung infection, was "stronger than before", according to his grandson and the family's spokesman, Mandla Mandela.
The retired statesman, who turned 94 in July, was discharged from a hospital in Pretoria on 26 December. He has since been undergoing home-based high care at his Houghton, Johannesburg home.
During his hospitalisation, which started on 8 December, Mandela received treatment for a recurrent lung infection, as well as surgery to extract gall stones, according to news agency Sapa.
"As the family of Mandela, we thank ... the people of South Africa as a whole who prayed for the old man whilst he was sick," Mandla Mandela told Sapa.
There was an outpouring of well wishes for Madiba from South Africans from all walks of life when news broke that the great man had been flown from his rural Eastern Cape home in Qunu to an undisclosed hospital in Pretoria.
"I really appreciate these prayers because my grandpa is healed and is stronger than before," Mandla Mandela said.
