SA, Rwanda commission meets
28 August 2006
South African Foreign Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and her Rwandan counterpart, Charles Murigande, will chair the latest meeting of the South Africa-Rwanda joint commission of cooperation in Kigali, Rwanda on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Issues on the agenda include political and economic relations between South Africa and Rwanda, a review of the commission's work since its establishment in 2001, and developments in east and southern Africa.
The commission will also discuss peace-building and conflict resolution in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan and Ivory Coast; lessons from Rwanda's accession to the African Peer Review Mechanism; and the implementation of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (Nepad).
Since its establishment in Pretoria in 2001, the commission has made significant progress in developing and implementing post-reconstruction programmes in Rwanda, SA's Department of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on
Monday.
This was underscored by "high-level engagement between South African and Rwandan public and private sector stakeholders," it said.
