South Africa is already preparing for the safety and security of fans who will be visiting for the 2010 World Cup.
This emerged at a meeting of senior police management from all nine provinces held in Pretoria last week to brainstorm safety and security issues ahead of event.
Hundreds of thousands of international supporters are expected to visit South Africa for the world's largest sporting event.
Assistant Commissioner Joseph Ngobeni said planning focused on normal policing, as well as specific crucial areas, such as safeguarding VIPs, teams and the public during and after soccer matches.
"Most importantly, we have adopted an integrated approach in this process by working very closely with representatives from other government departments, the South African Football Association and Fifa," Ngobeni said.
"We are satisfied that, with our track record of expertise and experience acquired during previous big events, such as
the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development, we will be able to achieve safety and security in our beautiful country," Ngobeni said.
He added that the police were confident that, with the support of the public, the event would go off peacefully in SA.
"We urge all South Africans to lead by example by showing our international counterparts what a disciplined nation we are and by displaying our ubuntu culture."
