South Africa's traveller's portal
Flying today? You might want to check in with South Africa's new web portal, Traveller's Friend.
Perhaps ground fog at your destination airport has caused flight delays. Maybe it's rainy and cold and you need to bring an umbrella. Parking might be disrupted by construction activities, so you'll need to get there extra early.
If you're staying a while in your destination city, you might want to know what sport, recreation events and conferences will be on while you're there.
The new traveller's website from Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) is part of the company's drive to ensure that the South African airport experience is a smooth and enjoyable one for every passenger.
The easy-to-use portal offers a multitude of services for
business and leisure travellers as well as first-time flyers.
Travellers can log on for live flight information, local and international news, the weather, a currency converter, upcoming events, places to see and things to do, information on Acsa's 10 airports, and travel alerts - in case anything happens either locally or abroad that affects air travel.
The service will soon be interactive, enabling passengers to sign up to receive SMS updates on weather, flight times and the like, so that even if they can't log on to the site, they can stay up to date on things that could affect their travels.
Potential airport and flight security risks and regulations are also highlighted, together with tips on being safety conscious.
Acsa stakeholders such as airlines, car rental agencies and retailers are all present on the site, with links to their respective sites.
Coming soon to the site will be airport terminal maps, travellers tips, Acsa TV, music
downloads and more.
